Owners

Pauline Houliaras

While working on her Master's degree in clinical psychology at Loyola College, Pauline began her future career in pet sitting by taking care of everyone's pets while they traveled. After working for 15 years in the mental health field and 4 years managing a busy call center, Pauline dreamed of working from home and spending time with her dog and cats. She started professional dog walking in 2001 and currently co-owns Doghouse Girls, Inc. She enjoys providing behavioral advice for clients' pets, which doesn't seem that far removed from her days doing psychiatric evaluations in the emergency room.

When not taking care of her clients' pets, Pauline enjoys gardening, cooking, reading, NPR, dog training, animal behavior and nutrition, and especially watching The Dog Whisperer. Her dog Ravenopolis is a Greek-American Pit Bull Terrier, Canine Good Citizen and Pets on Wheels Volunteer therapy dog. Pauline also volunteers for several organizations including the Canton Garden Association, Adopt-A-Homeless Animal pit bull rescue and BARCS. As a founding member of the Canton Community Association and its first Vice President, she has volunteered many hours in the neighborhood over the last 10 years and helped start Canton Dog Park. She is currently on the Board of Friends of Canton Dog Park and a founding member of a new nonprofit called B-More Dog, Inc.

Sue Loeffler

Sue's background is in logistics, fulfillment, and warehouse management. After 11 years with the same company, she decided to leave the rat race and do something more entrepreneurial. The first few years were rough but she can't imagine going back to the corporate world again. She much prefers an office in the dog park. She started professional dog walking in 2001 and currently co-owns Doghouse Girls, Inc. Most people don't know that Sue moved to Hawaii for 5 years right after high school; sometimes she wonders why she ever left paradise. One of her special talents is helping extremely timid dogs feel more confident around humans and other dogs. Her first success story was Zachydoodle but many more have been added to the list.

When not taking care of her clients' pets, Sue enjoys keeping up on current events, reading odd news stories, watching movies and true crime shows, and spending time with her grandchildren Hadley (8) and Chloe (4). They also enjoy dog walking with her, meeting the sweet kitties and even rabbits we care for. She has 2 dogs: Chance, a 13-yo shepherd mix, and Dewey, a 4-year-old long-haired rat terrier, plus her recently rescued cat Matilda.

Independent Contractors

Blair Hagan

After graduating from Goucher College, Blair thought it would be great to spend time outdoors walking dogs while she pursues a Master's degree. She doesn't have a dog of her own at the moment but grew up with Labrador retrievers. Her family pets are Woody the black lab and Maggie the yellow lab. One of the perks of being a dog walker is she gets to meet lots of dogs of every breed. Plus she has a 10-minute commute from Charles Village to Canton and she gets to spend time with her favorite boxers, the breed she thought she wanted before becoming a dog walker. She loves, loves, loves working with young puppies of any breed and helping enforce their newly acquired leash walking skills. When not working or studying, Blair enjoys hanging out with friends, reading, roller derby, yoga, pilates and live music events.

David Litz

Dave, aka RockStar, is a dog walker by day and musician by night. He's in three bands: Vincent Black Shadow, Pastures, and Heavy Light/Sweaty Aura. They play locally and tour the United States a couple times a year. He and his wife Sue own a home, a.k. a. "the Ghettoasis", in an obscure neighborhood near Television Hill and live with several cats, let's say more than five but less than 20. He started his dog-walking career in Chicago, his wife's hometown, and when they moved back to Baltimore he looked for a similar gig. Sue rides along to spend time with the dogs when she's got a day off. When he takes time off to travel with his band, he really misses his canine companions. Dave also enjoys collecting records & other ephemera, watching his extensive psychotronic dvd collection, and "deep thoughts."

Jennifer Orem

Jenn comes to dog walking with an interesting background including years of managing golf courses, various gigs as an administrative assistant and/or manager, and even a stint in the US Army. She loves animals, especially dogs and cats, and her dream is to own a No Kill Animal Sanctuary. In her free time she likes to read, do crossword puzzles, play video & board games, watch movies, take road trips and creative writing. She also enjoys outdoorsy things like hiking, biking, playing tennis and the occasional game of basketball. And, naturally, she loves walking her dog Nikita and exploring all that Baltimore has to offer from their home in Charles Village.

Alexis Takas

Alexis lives in Canton with her husband, Jordan, and their deaf American Bulldog, Brian. Raising a large, active and deaf dog has taught her the importance of providing plenty of exercise, being in tune with canine body language and lots of patience. She recently received her MS in Branding Strategy from the VCU Brandcenter in Richmond. While she looks for the perfect job in her field, she thinks part-time dog walking is the perfect fit! She is a lifelong athlete who played competitive lacrosse in college and still enjoys many outdoor sports including running, golfing, surfing, snowboarding and most recently, bicycling with Brian at her side. (Cesar would be proud!)
